Understanding the task-queue system of a Spring Boot app when different background threads are requesting the same data
I have a Spring Boot application (Spring Boot version 1.4.2.RELEASE) running two REST services which, when deployed, each creates and handles a separate service-task.
One service takes in JSON data from a file on disk, and calls a spring controller to fetch the corresponding data from a database. It then sends the data to another service using RestTemplate.
The other service takes in JSON data from a UDP socket, unmarshalls the data, and passes it to the same controller. Then, the controller generates a response and streams it back to the socket using the RestTemplate.
When the app loads, it starts both these services up and spins up a bunch of threads which act as worker threads for the service. The worker threads do some synchronous/asynchronous processing, and when finished, they call a method called finish() which:
Calls a finish method on the corresponding controller, passing in the JSON data which was received and the JSON data which was returned (which was marshalled from the controller).
Calls a close() method on the REST templates created in the service.
Here’s my question:
If I have these two services, each handling its own service-task, when they are both running simultaneously, how does the Spring framework know which of the tasks is processing which of the requests?
For instance, let’s say one service is processing a request to fetch the data which is received from the first REST service, and using the image below, there are N/2 threads, each processing one type of request. So, when the call to finish() is made, which one of the two services will finish which of the tasks? Or, assuming it’s a 1-1 relation, let’s say I have 1 thread for each request (i.e. N=1). When finish() is called, how does the framework know which call will finish which task?
By the way, in my case, I have a local JMS queue/topic which I use to send/receive data from the UDP socket, but I doubt that has anything to do with the question.
