Setting up the workspace
As you work with Photoshop, the program organizes everything you do in layers and paths. This can be a little confusing at first because you don’t see any obvious layers. On the first page of a new document, however, you see the Layer Styles window, as shown in Figure 3-1. This window, at the top of the workspace, provides the organizing tool for all the layers and paths you create in the program and can help you associate things with things in case you need to revert to a previous version.

The Layers panel lists all the layers of a document by name, but it doesn’t indicate their placement on the page. To move a layer, select the layer and choose Move, which is the first icon along the top row of the Layers panel. You can also place a layer by dragging it onto the painting area. Another way to place a layer is by using the Layer dialog box, which you can summon by clicking the New Layer icon at the bottom of the Layers panel, as shown in Figure 3-2.

Just as in other types of image editors, you can move a layer to a different place in the drawing area and have it automatically placed on a new layer by using the layer’s thumbnail in the Layers panel. To move a layer, drag a box on the drawing area around the thumbnail. Double-click the thumbnail to place the layer in the desired spot. (If you spot a small dot on the left side of the thumbnail, you can double-click the dot to move the layer.)

If you have access to Photoshop you should never use the Starter Kit. It’s just too limited in what you can do with it.

1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to machines for reducing foods, and more particularly, to an automatic food chopper wherein a food, contained in a plastic bag, is turned upside down, cut open to expose its underside, and then a metal blade pushes the contents of the bag in a straight down motion toward a metal grid located below the bag.

No. 4,167,723 includes a housing with a plastic bag mounted therein which folds over and encloses the food when it is inserted into the housing. A pair of V-shaped projections extends from the housing adjacent the bottom of the bag to assist in guiding the food downwardly into a pair of cutting elements which scrape the food, thereby reducing the same to pieces of like size and shape. The cutting elements are generally a pair of elongated plates spaced apart from one another and located at opposite sides of the machine. A pair of rotating blades extend between and above the plates. The food bag is provided with a number of openings therein to allow its contents to be reduced and prepared for cooking. A clamping mechanism secures the ends of the food bag as the bag is withdrawn from the housing. The food bag is dispensed with the clamping mechanism and a drive mechanism, which may be a spring-loaded sliding plate on the housing, maintains the bag at an upright position and adjacent the housing. When a food product such as chicken legs is inserted into the housing through a slot in the rear of the housing, the bag unfolds and the food is enclosed therein.

A discharge slot is located in the housing cover and communicates with a discharge opening in the housing through which the chopped food is removed.
