The main objective of using multiple layers is to provide you with more room to work on an image. If you need to resize an image, you may not be able to do so if the image is one layer. However, if you create another layer and resize the other layer on top of it, then you can make those changes. In addition, you can move, rotate, flip, and warp layers, or even create a layer mask to protect those underlying layers from modification.
Figure 6-1 shows multiple layers, which are numbered 1 through 8.

Creating multiple layers
Creating multiple layers is pretty straightforward. Follow these steps to create multiple layers:
1. Choose Layers from the Image Menu and click the New Layer icon to open the Create Layer dialog box.

2. Select the Layers option in the Create Layer dialog box and click OK.
The Layers panel opens. The number of layers in the image is at the top of the panel, and the active layer is at the bottom, with a drop-down list allowing you to switch to the other layers.
3. Using the scroll bar at the bottom of the Layers panel, click and drag a layer thumbnail upward to insert the new layer on top of the last one or below the active layer (depending on whether you clicked the icon that appears in Step 2).

Sprint shared its views on the implications of the FCC’s new order in a letter sent to the FCC today (PDF). The letter had not been previously made public and it comes amid FCC Chairman Ajit Pai’s attempts to revisit regulatory protections for the deployment of 5G. Sprint claims that the wireless industry has seen a substantial decrease in signal performance in the USA during the last few years and that the FCC has not explored other possible reasons for this decline.
The letter asks the FCC not to use “innovation through deployment” as a justification for its proposed 5G rules. Sprint argues that the FCC should instead focus on the mechanisms by which 5G might impact signal performance. This argument seems to be that the signal strength of 4G networks could be affected by large numbers of small and light devices, such as smartphones, laptop computers, tablets and other wireless sensors.
This argument has precedent, as the FCC’s 2010 decision in favor of AWS-3 licenses, which allowed the deployment of 4G LTE in parts of the country that were previously served by unlicensed wireless technologies. In that case, the FCC relied on a number of studies showing that the use of multiple wireless technologies in the same area could lead to congestion and signal loss, however such claims were not sufficiently substantiated by the studies.

Apple Creates Shared Office Using Old Computer Screen Used By Steve Jobs
Apple has been making art—and a bit of history, too—with its many Apple Stores.
At its conference this week, Apple has unveiled a new space that merges retail and education: the Apple Community Center, which will be housed in the iconic Steve Jobs Theater in its Cupertino, California, headquarters. The space will be shared by customers, and will feature a communal workspace made out of a bunch of old Macintosh computers that once belonged to Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak.
“We designed this space so that when you walk into it, you feel like you are in the office of someone you admire,” said Steve Jobs, referring to the iconic Apple-founder, Apple co-founder, and former CEO. “You can say to your coworkers, and you can talk to them, and you can do what you always do at work: solve problems and meet new people.”
The old Macs have been stationed in the center, arranged in a large U-shape, so they can be used to project screens and presentations, and to collaborate with other Apple employees, said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
“We are creating a new type of workplace,” said Cook. “It is a work of art. It blends a classic sensibility with a modern sensibility. And it’s designed to nurture the heart of the enterprise—the collaborative spirit—with a connection to the arts.”
The location of the center is a nod to the personalities of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, and their contributions to the company. “Steve Jobs worked here in the beginning, and he designed it,” said Cook. “And Steve Wozniak, who co-founded Apple with Jobs, spent his career here, and so he helped design it.”
While the space is still under construction, Apple is already using the center to host activities for students and teachers.
