in the 1970s, a new generation of artists began to explore and create these images. they were interested in the process of reproduction and visual culture. they were interested in making the grotesque and monstrous legible. they also wanted to make the more “traditional” grotesque and monsters more accessible. this is why many of the typefaces discussed above were created. the focus is on the grotesque and distortion, but as you can see, the style is not constrained to just one style. there are many different ways to tell a story or say a message. for example, you can see the differences between this font and the linotype font that was used in this picture:

the average reader might not be able to see the differences, but if you look closely, you can see some drastic changes. this is probably due to the fact that the font is a digital version of the one used for the printing.

nowadays, there is a lot of interest in using digital type for printed applications. this is a typeface that was designed to be used this way. the typeface is available at dafont.com. you can download it as a standalone font or as a companion font to the work sans. the typeface has four weights: thin, regular, medium and heavy.

the use of non-latin typefaces for body copy has been growing over the past few years. this is mainly due to the ease of use and the ability to find a large number of fonts in digital applications. the downside of this trend is that it has also been associated with poor typography. so, it is important to be aware of this when using a non-latin typeface for body copy.

unicode contains a large number of superscripts and subscripts to support mathematical, stylistic, and other purposes. the glyphs are stored in a single table with an entry for each character. the unicode glyphs were stored in the traditional superscript or subscript position in certain fonts. the adobe photoshop glyph palette, for example, combines a superscript and subscript form of a character into a single glyph. this feature replaces the traditional forms with the stylistic alternates. the user applies this feature to sans-serif to get the alternate forms of f.
