How to deal with a «double-promised» employee in an early stages
I have this problem of recruiting for a company where my boss and I had promised the new employee about some special treatment. We agreed to a salary and that we would give him an extra 15€ per month which is his way of thanking us for our efforts of convincing him to join.
I then found out that I was lied to because the new guy was already talking to another company where the official offer had been made months ago. He is so happy to be getting all this attention because he already told me to say that he was happy in his current job. He has also hinted to me that the company is very resourceful and seems to pay very well (with what I could see in my current job he is not getting any additional salary for that extra month that we «promised» him).
Now we are in this situation, where my boss and I wanted to say that we are happy to have been the one who made him the offer, but it was him that made the offer to another company and that he lied about our promise. I know that this is going to be a very bad relationship from now on and that this employee will probably not be a good thing for the company. I am pretty worried about what happens next month. What should I do?
