A new image (or picture) appears in the main Photoshop window.
Photoshop lets you create a background, which is the layer that you use to define how the picture looks; and an image (or photo), which is the layer that holds the actual pixel data. Any new image you create with the Photoshop program is called an _import_, whereas every image on a CD or disk is referred to as an _exported_ image.
You can also import images from a scanner, camera, or photo CD/disk. The process of importing is similar to importing a CD-ROM image, but instead of putting a disk into your computer, you drop the image file on to the Photoshop window.
When you create a new image, it can have a background and an image. I explain the meaning of those terms later in this chapter.
In Figure 2-2, I created a new image, imported an existing image, and copied the selection from one layer to another.

TOWSON — Junior guard Dez Wells says he hasn’t lost a game he played in the past three seasons and the senior forward has no intention of starting this season.
“I didn’t start our season to lose,” Wells said Wednesday.
Then he added, “We’re on a three-game winning streak. It’s a far cry from the first couple of weeks of the season.”
Wells dismissed reports that he was suspended for missing classes last season.
Towson has won three straight NCAA tournaments, but last season’s loss in the second round of the national championship game to eventual champion UCLA rattled Wells.
“I was definitely disappointed and felt bad for the team,” said Wells, who scored 12 points in the loss. “I felt like I could have done more. I felt I gave up on my teammates and myself at times
