The Hollywood Reporter recently took the time to speak with ‘Ra.One’ director, A.R.Rahman about his film, and asked him about the name and timing of this film, and he told them this:

It’s the 80s in India, and India is the world’s largest software exporter. I wanted to start a story about India where we don’t take for granted what we have at home. And we don’t just move on. You don’t go to Chinatown and feel like you don’t know what happened in the past. They take their history seriously and have pride in their culture. People don’t take their culture lightly, and we grow up with that awareness. Then we have the Mumbai calling card, which is the film. You know, in the 80s you called it a Bollywood film. Now people have started talking about a Mumbai calling.

Indians do not care that the movie is a Bollywood film. Ra.One is a Hindi language Bollywood film. Although unlike a Hollywood film, it will be a huge hit in India because an Indian film can cross boundaries of languages and cultural groups.
This is why «Goosebumps» was a huge hit in the U.S. unlike «Charlie’s Angels», «Ghostbusters» and «Flubber». Even though «Goosebumps» was written by the only talented writer in Hollywood, «It’s a Wonderful Life» it didn’t do well because it was a Bollywood film and only made money in India because it was able to cross a boundary and come out as a Hindi film.
Hindi films are the top Bollywood films. That is why «Sholay» is a top movie of all time and will continue to be until they make «Dasvidaniya» the number one film of all time.
Hindi films dominate Bollywood because India is the only country to have more people that speak Hindi than any other language.
To be fair, just about every country in the world is the only one that speaks their native language. But India, China and Brazil would be the three most common. The fact that India is growing and has such a huge population is a major reason why Hollywood films keep trying to
