The order of the layers determines which elements are in focus and how the image appears.
Each image layer is also referred to as a «channel.» For example, if you put a black layer on top of a white layer and you then work on the white layer, the black layer is still there behind the white layer.
To change the order of the layers, bring up the Layers panel and double-click the topmost layer. You can also just drag and drop the layers.
