Something is coming to the lakefront in very small numbers. They are being called corpses. The headless corpse is in a constant state of movement and acts as a catalyst. The player must also make sure the corpses do not spread. If it goes on for too long, they will become a pest and you’ll need to start killing them off.

Unlike the previous DreadOut games, there are no words. There is no voiceover and no tutorial. The only instruction is through images and text. Thus, the player is put in a position where they must rely on their intuition and experience to play the game. There is no looking at the rules before you start either, as the rules appear as you play.

If that’s not scary enough, there is no multiplayer mode. The player will be all alone in this horror adventure.

Most of the game takes place inside a small home where the player has to traverse, solve puzzles, and gather objects. The player will be looking for a keycard that can get them to the final level. Once there, they must obtain the rest of the keys and escape the house.

The score is kept with a tile grid, where dead bodies will be placed in certain places. The player has to prevent that from happening. This is a tile puzzle game, so there is no difference between puzzle and horror elements.

The player is allowed to shoot one-way or two-way doors. There are three different light levels to the room. The blood of the corpses will be red (bright light), white (dark), or black (weak light).

The player will be controlling a camera and must move it around as necessary. In order to fix it, the player must click on each tile in the room to move the camera to that location. When a player clicks on a corpse, it changes to red.
