Since Photoshop Elements is an offshoot of Adobe Photoshop, most of the features you’d find in a professional version are present in Elements. And many graphics artists use Elements to get the job done.
However, for many graphics artists, Adobe’s professional-grade version of Photoshop is still the best tool for the job. Elements is a great tool when you’re looking to get some extra attention to your blog or email newsletter.
But there is also a good reason to consider using Elements to edit images: it’s probably free. In general, there are cheaper alternatives to Photoshop like GIMP and Pixlr.
This review of Photoshop Elements 10.5.4 will take a quick look at the different features of the popular graphics tool.
There are a large number of features and tools in Photoshop. This review will only cover the ones that pertain directly to graphic design.
What does Photoshop Elements really do?
Basically, Photoshop Elements is the same as regular Photoshop. If you’ve used professional Photoshop before, you can figure out how to work with Elements. It works pretty much the same.
Some people like to use Elements as their main graphics tool and Photoshop as their main photography tool.
Photoshop Elements can be used to do some of the most commonly-used tasks:
Photo Editing and Retouching
As the name suggests, Elements is designed to work with photographs, or images in general. However, if you haven’t used Elements much, you will probably need to take some time to learn how to use it to edit images.
Usually, most people are going to use the regular Photoshop features for editing their photographs. And for the most part, there are similar tools for Elements.
One feature that Elements does have, however, is the ability to apply various levels of saturation to your image.
Often in professional photo editing, it is necessary to mix a photo to increase its saturation. However, regular Photoshop has no way to increase the saturation of an image.
Elements 10.5.4 adds this ability with a tool called Adjustments.
