But saving your file as a JPEG format doesn’t always create the best file. And your choice of color space has a big impact on the quality of your JPEGs. You may want to use Photoshop’s built-in file-saving options to save your file as the best quality JPEG format for the task at hand, but because of space and size limitations, you may have to work with a smaller resolution JPEG.
You can also create JPEGs from scratch (by using Photoshop’s JPEG capabilities) for particular situations. The following sections show you how to create JPEGs from scratch, with options available.
No matter which options you use, the steps are the same:
1. **Open a new file and choose Image→Mode**.
The Save for Web dialog box appears.
2. Choose JPEG from the Save For Web Format list.
3. Then choose JPEG quality from the Format drop-down menu.
4. Choose a target file size from the Size drop-down menu.

5. For this example, choose 500 KB.
6. Check the File Name box.
You can create a file with this name, or you can click the tiny filename icon and type a new name. Don’t worry that you can’t put in a very long filename; the program won’t let you save a very large file.

Step 2: Edit and Correct Your Image
Here are the four basic editing options available in Elements. Click on the image to make the change.
You can crop your image so that you have a square or rectangular image, either 4:3 or 16:9. (You can only edit the 4:3 image if it is in 16:9 aspect.) Your original image is in the top left hand corner of the screen. If you decide to crop your image, the cropped image is only shown when you enter edit mode.
