History
Prior to 1990 the drawing package was a set of native programs, most notably DWG, created by Autodesk and loosely integrated in an operating system called AD-200. In November 1990, Autodesk released a new native drawing package called AutoCAD (a front end for the AD-200), replacing DWG. During the 1990s, AutoCAD became Autodesk’s flagship program and the standard to which other products were compared.
In 1995, a new version was released with the name AutoCAD LT. The program was developed as a standalone desktop application, which still had to run on Windows, for which it was initially designed, and did not require running on any other operating system.
