The name AutoCAD was coined by Robert Williams, an Autodesk employee, who was unhappy with his company’s existing CAD name, MicroStation. Williams was looking for a name that contained the word «Autodesk» to avoid the likelihood of legal problems. He came up with «AutoCAD» by substituting the «c» in the word «CAD» with an «o». «CAD» is an acronym for computer-aided design.

On the AutoCAD product page, Autodesk claims that «Autodesk AutoCAD is the world’s leading desktop CAD software». The 2002 version of the product website lists a number of jobs and companies that used AutoCAD before other CAD software was used in those same industries: Boeing, Microsoft, Alcoa, Ford, Lockheed, Xerox, Boeing and General Electric. Autodesk also claims that it was the first CAD software to support layer-based, multi-pass rendering and that it was the first product to support 3D modeling.

On November 16, 2013, Autodesk announced that they will discontinue the current version of AutoCAD software and the release of new versions will be discontinued. The company is in the process of transitioning to a subscription-based licensing model. The application will be available for one year after the transition is completed, after which it will be removed from sale.

Autodesk created AutoCAD from their prior software, MicroStation, and was released in 1982. Before Autodesk introduced AutoCAD, most CAD programs ran on mainframe computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate graphics terminal.

Every program that supported different standards had to be modified to run under this new standard, and every new generation of CAD program required a complete rewrite of the entire program’s architecture. Gaston Parmentier

Gaston Parmentier (14 June 1876 – 5 August 1918) was a French sculptor.

Born in Évreux, France, Parmentier began his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1899. He was associated with the École des Beaux-Arts de l’État in 1919.

His greatest work was in stone and bronze; amongst others, two monumental pieces, Le Corse and Le Corse sculpteurs, and the fountain in the Champ de Mars, Paris. His best-known bronze sculpture is Jean Jaurès, MP. He died on 5 August 1918 in Paris.
