Other features to be noted are the impression of absurd comedy made by Byomkeshs many absurd poses and actions. The dialogue of Byomkesh in the Byomkesh stories usually consists of long and powerful sentences, often created by a series of compound words. In the following example, we get to hear the reactions of Byomkesh to the policeman’s threat to kill his wife:

It is not easy to get rid of an abusive spouse. And the policeman, the passer-by and his wife must share the dangers. In fact, the writer uses this incident to give a glimpse of his strong character. It is possible to read other Byomkesh stories in this way. It should also be noted that the famous detective turns out to be an ignorant and naive person in many other aspects as well. Yet he has great respect and likeability for almost all the characters as well. His way of flaunting his wealth and prestige is unlike any other detective in India.

The other direction that Kolkata seems to be receiving is ‘Kolkata is a city of explorers and pilgrims,’ says Dutt. While the world is looking for a new Byomkesh, Kolkata now has a new talkie. The new film will have a global appeal. Kolkata seems to be embracing its new direction. Rose Valley Productions is planning a new Byomkesh Bakshi film. It will be based on the first story. Kolkata is now a contemporary Kolkata and has a new appeal.
It is an attempt to visualise the past era like medieval India and present-day India. It is cinema in the form of a detective show. A Byomkesh film should not be like a conventional TV series or like a serial. It should be cinematic. The Byomkesh which we have created is a Byomkesh of the neo-gothic era. It is old-fashioned and vintage. It doesn’t look like the 1930s, it doesn’t look like the 1940s and 1950s. Rather, like BrajMohan Lal in Ek Thi Marmar Ek (1943), it looks at things from the point of view of the 1930s and 1940s. However, in the Byomkesh films, there is no history and no time, everything seems to happen right now. We have also put in some classic sounds and classic songs by Lata Mangeshkar and Khaiyyam. The backdrop of this Byomkesh film is post-independence Kolkata. The Byomkesh in the Kohen Kobi Kalidas is a new version of the Byomkesh of the first film and will be more aggressive, more satirical, more modern. The writer is busy, the cinematographer is busy, I too have a lot of stuff to do. But I am confident that we will make a great Byomkesh film by working together, as it has been a wonderful experience for all of us.
