Notrium is a story-driven action-adventure survival game with survival and exploration elements. You play as a stranded astronaut, and your objective is to survive in this harsh world.

First, Notrium has survival and exploration elements. This allows for a rich, realistic experience – during the day, you will be gathering resources, building a shelter, hunting for game, and even fighting off dangerous predators.
The game’s night setting is nothing compared to real night – the game simply uses light sources, and night visuals may seem unrealistic. However, that in itself is part of the experience – survival games are supposed to be challenging. With that said, all sounds are made by night animals, and any noise makes an alien nearby.
This experience is enhanced by the variety of resources to be collected. You will spend time building a shelter, and hunting animals to replenish your food supply. You will spend time finding the best locations to build a shelter, and how to do so. There will be fights and challenges. Notrium is a challenging, complex survival game.

Notrium is not a role-playing game, but instead a game where you have to manage the resources you have, and build a shelter. Notrium has an overall survival theme, but it is also a science fiction game where you complete different missions. You will collect resources, and build a shelter.
The story is the setting of the world, and is as simple as it is fictitious. Your character is stranded on a distant planet with a limited amount of time to survive. You are an astronaut, and have crash-landed on a planet. What is the story? What happened before the game starts? Why has no one come to rescue you? Why you are stranded on an alien planet?
There are six different stories, and the missions revolve around them.

Notrium is not a survival game engine, and was originally released as one. However, the mechanics of the game were already used, as Notrium was based on multiple other games like Plants vs Zombies and The Sims.
