If you want to use Final Draft to create screenplays, you are in for a treat. Many other applications are hard to learn and that’s not a fair comparison. Whatever you are trying to do in Final Draft, there’s a tool for that. As a writer, my background is NOT in the business world.
I learned to create scripts in Final Draft. It was fast and I was soon creating scripts that had me spending less time in front of my computer. This paid off when I was lucky enough to have someone read my scripts. It was a much better test than if I had submitted my scripts to production companies.
In my case, Final Draft did many things for me. It created final molds of the stories I was telling. In other words, it helped create a mold of what the story should look like (the story I was telling). This meant that I was less likely to fill the screen with scenes that weren’t necessary. By taking out the «fluff» and sticking with the «story», I was much more likely to get my script read. If you think about it, the whole reason you want to become a screenwriter is to get your script read and produced. It makes sense.
In order to maximize its potential and make the most of it, I strongly recommend that you invest in some additional training. You can get your hands on an excellent course in Final Draft called «Editor’s Eye» that I attended in February. It was very helpful. For example, if you want to open a story in a secondary view, you’ll learn how to do it. If you want to insert a watermark, you’ll learn how to do that. If you want to add in a title page, you’ll learn how to do that. If you want to be able to open the file in edit mode, you’ll learn how to do that. These are just a few of the things that are covered. You can get this training from Daniele Trevatti.
Let me tell you a little about how I use Final Draft. I have two Windows computers. The first one I use for Final Draft and the second for my other screenwriting software (I’ll save that for another time).
