To begin using a brush in Photoshop, open a document. Once open, click Edit > Brush. A brush is represented by a short tap with the middle mouse button (or right mouse button for a trackpad or two-button mouse). A standard computer mouse also works, but is a lot slower.

You can adjust the opacity of your brush. To do this, click the Opacity field on the right side of the Brush dialog box. The default value is 100, which means it is totally opaque. The number may be higher or lower depending on the type of brush. For instance, a flat brush in Photoshop is 100% opaque by default, while a soft brush is 50%. To edit a brush, click the arrow next to the brush to open the Brush dialog box. The Brush dialog box is shown in Figure 13.25.
To select a new tool from the Brush dialog box, press Esc. To select a brush from the Brush dialog box, first click the brush you want to select. Then, press Esc.
Any tool is available for brush creation. You can choose various directions, sizes and colors for the brush’s shape. Simply click anywhere on the brush to select it, then press Enter. The selected brush is shown in the bottom half of the Image window.
To delete the brush, press Esc. To replace it with a new brush, click in the Brush box and press Enter. To reset the brush to 100% opacity, click the Opacity field on the right side of the Brush dialog box, and set its value to 100. To cancel and close the brush without saving any changes, press Esc.

NEWARK — A Newark lawyer was left paralyzed after a Newark police officer slammed his head to the pavement following a traffic stop while he was wearing his eyeglasses, and the officer was unable to locate the glasses, according to a lawsuit filed on behalf of the man.
Jean-Marie Arrigo, 57, who suffers from a brain tumor and schizophrenia, was subjected to excessive force by Newark police officer John Loughlin, 52, after he was pulled over for driving without a front license plate on his Volkswagen in July 2017, his lawsuit says.
His glasses were located on a sidewalk following the traffic stop, but he alleges that Loughlin disregarded the glasses as «non-evidence,» causing him to fall to the pavement.
«The plaintiff was in excruciating pain, and lying on the pavement he felt his head turning to his left and right,» the lawsuit says. «Officer Loughlin continued to hit his head against the pavement, and failing to discover (Arrigo’s) eyeglasses on the ground and thus unable to locate them to remove them from (his) head and place them in (his) pocket.»
Loughlin then picked up the eyeglasses and threw them at Arrigo’s head, cutting his skull, neck and face, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit also says the officer «attempted to arrest the plaintiff at the scene, knowing or having cause to believe the plaintiff was disabled in the eyes of the law as a result of his brain tumor.»
After being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2005, Arrigo was forced to see a different doctor each week for treatment «because his symptoms change so rapidly,» according to the lawsuit.
According to the lawsuit, Arrigo suffered a loss of hearing in his left ear, and «loss of the ability to do activities such as walking, talking, eating and concentrating due to his physical pain, headaches, dizziness, loss of hearing and the trauma associated with being struck by defendant Loughlin.»
Arrigo’s lawsuit names Loughlin, the City of Newark and John Everett Loughlin as defendants.
John Everett Loughlin was a passenger in the car during the traffic stop and was acquitted in 2011 of assault by auto in connection with the incident, according to the lawsuit.
When asked whether he knew why a judge acquitted his brother, John Everett Loughlin said, «No. I have no comments.»
